Hungry for Christ - fasting for the salvation of souls

Holy Family Parish has formed a Fasting Group for encouragement and support. The goal of the group is to fast on Fridays throughout the year for the salvation of souls and any other intentions.

Here’s how it works:

You will receive an email prior to the fast day. You choose the level at which you would like to participate.

After the fast day, you will receive an email that will call for a self-determined “grade” on a scale of 0-10. This is purely voluntary, but it allows the facilitator to report an aggregate of our efforts. You can use the following guide for your grading:

No fast
1 regular meal
& 2 small
No food

Grading suggestions: You should give yourself extra credit for attending Mass, a holy hour and other devotions. Add one credit for each item added to the fast. You should subtract from your score if you are lacking in charity, such as being cross with your family or others.

Always with God’s grace, we should strive to increase what we do for His glory. Thank you for your consideration, may God bless you!

If you would like to join “Hungry for Christ” and be added to the email list, contact Denice at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Men of St. Michael

All men are invited to join the Men of St. Michael.  We commit to prayer and sacrifice (fasting on Fridays and Ember Days) for the good of our families, Holy Mother Church and our communities.  Men of St. Michael is an answer to the moral degradation of our culture.  Step forward and say, “Yes, God, I will serve!”

Divine Mercy

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy

How to Recite the Chaplet
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.

 1. Make the Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Optional Opening Prayers
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

(Repeat three times)
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

3. Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

4. Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

5. The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

6. The Eternal Father
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

8. Repeat for the remaining decades
Say the "Eternal Father" (#6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion" (#7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads.

9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

10. Optional Closing Prayer
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

First Saturday Devotions

Our Lady said: "I promise to help at the hour of death, with the graces needed for salvation, whoever on the First Saturday of five consecutive months shall:

  • Confess [within a week before or after the 1st Saturday].
  • Receive Holy Communion [on the 1st Saturday].
  • Recite five decades of the Holy Rosary.
  • Keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me."

It is sometimes asked why Our Lady asked for Communions of reparation on five first Saturdays, instead of some other number.  Our Blessed Lord answered that question when He appeared to Sr. Lucia on May 29, 1930.  He explained that it was because of five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, namely:  blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother.

Priest:  Let us pray.  Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord God, that we Your servants may enjoy perpetual health of mind and body, and by the glorious intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, be delivered from present sorrow and enjoy everlasting happiness.  Through Christ Our Lord.    All:  Amen.

All:  Most glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, turn your eyes in pity upon us, miserable sinners.  We are sorely afflicted by the many evils that surround us in this life, but especially we feel our hearts break within us upon hearing the dreadful insults and blasphemies uttered against you, O Virgin Immaculate.  O how these impious sayings offend the infinite Majesty of God and His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ!  How they provoke His indignation and give us cause to fear the terrible effects of His vengeance!  Would that the sacrifice of our lives put an end to such outrages and blasphemies, how gladly we would offer it.  We desire, O most holy Mother, to love you and to honor you with all our hearts.  And because we love you, we will do all that is in our power to make you honored and loved by all men.
Although I know full well my own unworthiness, yet in order to atone for the offenses that are done to you by evil tongues, from the depths of my heart I praise and extol you as the purest, the fairest, the holiest creature of all God's handiwork.  I bless your holy Name, I praise your exalted privilege of being truly Mother of God, ever Virgin, conceived without stain of sin, Co-Redemptrix of the human race.  I bless the Eternal Father who chose you as His bride.  All honor, praise and thanksgiving to the ever-blessed Trinity who predestined you and loved you so exceedingly from all eternity as to exalt you above all creatures to the sublime heights.
Please, O merciful Mother, comforter of the afflicted, accept our act of reparation which we offer you for ourselves, our families, and for all who blaspheme you.  O Virgin, holy and merciful, obtain for all who offend you the grace of repentance, and graciously accept this poor act of homage from us your servants, obtaining also for us from your divine Son the pardon and remission of all our sins.  Amen.

All:  Tender Mother of our Redeemer and of the Church, we wish to consecrate ourselves to your Immaculate Heart, and to show our filial love, we intend to live the Christian life to the fullest, and to heed your message made known at Fatima and elsewhere.  We will pray and sacrifice in a spirit of reparation.  We will pray the rosary especially for sinners and for peace.  We will wear the scapular as a visible sign of our dedication to you, Mother of God.
Because we love you, it pains us to hear of doubts cast against your Immaculate Conception, your divine and spiritual motherhood; that your icons, pictures, and images are not honored; and that little ones are deprived of a complete knowledge of the Church's teaching about their spiritual mother.  We wish to offer reparation for these offenses against your Immaculate Heart, especially by offering Communions of Reparation to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary on the First Fridays and Saturdays of the month.
Grant, loving Mother, that sinners may repent, the just become holy and kind, and that all people may live in peace.  Amen.

Priest:  Immaculate Heart of Mary,    All:  Pray for us.

Hail Mary - three times
